Jack Torrance takes on a winter caretaker position at the isolated Overlook Hotel, nestled in the Colorado Rockies. His duties involve maintaining the property while it remains closed during the harsh winter months. Upon his arrival, the manager, Stuart Ullman, informs him of a chilling incident that occurred a decade earlier. The former caretaker, Charles Grady, tragically lost control, murdering his wife and two young daughters before taking his own life.
