The storm sets the stage for a critical incident involving the Universal Dynamics cargo ship, leading to the loss of its ROZZUM robots. Among these, only ROZZUM Unit 7134, known as "Roz," survives, eventually washing up on an uninhabited island. Roz's activation is unintentional, triggered by the island's wildlife.

Upon activation, Roz's interactions with the local fauna are marked by tension and missteps. Despite her efforts to communicate and assist after learning their language, her presence initially frightens the animals. Her attempts to help result in injuries to herself and further alienate the wildlife. Seeking purpose, Roz sends out a signal for retrieval, but her situation deteriorates as she is struck by lightning and faces hostility from the animals.

A turning point occurs during her escape from Thorn, a menacing grizzly bear. In her flight, Roz inadvertently destroys a goose nest, leading to the loss of all its eggs and birds—save for one surviving egg. This incident sets the stage for potential new dynamics in Roz's relationship with the island's ecosystem, hinting at challenges ahead in her journey of adaptation and survival.
